Scrappin' Moms

Building the Filipino scrapbooking community

Joanne Figueroa Yap

QOTD (Question of the day) May 12, 2008 (try this out ladies!)

Lets talk about handmade gifts. Since becoming a scrapbooker/paper crafter, we have done away buying commercial gifts. We have labored to make gifts for our families and it has brought so much joy (right?)..

So the question of the day:
Is there a handcrafted gift you gave to a special person?

Describe the reaction and impact it gave once they looked over your project. Share with us your reaction in seeing your special person surprised about his/her gift.

i've always given handcrafted gifts to people... friendship bracelets, bead bracelets, cards and LOs... ewan ko yung iba kung na-aappreciate nila yung LOs kasi parang no reaction naman.. hehehe! Ang unforgettable lang was my mini-album for my bf. Sobrang natuwa sya and hanggang ngayon napapangiti ako when i see it in his closet. Surprisingly, the people who has appreciated my scrapbooks the most are guys. My uncle even bought my album to manila to show our relatives ng hindi ko alam kasi sobrang natuwa sya. Syempre flattered ako kasi architect/artist sya, kumbaga an artist admiring another 's work. If a slideshow/moviemaker project counts, my sister also was super tuwa with the slideshow i did of us during her vacation. now, she wants to go into photography na rin. Whenever someone appreciates my work, na-iinspire ako, parang gusto ko silang gawan ng gawan ng gifts. hehehe.

yeah after venturing into scrapbooking, i more often than not make those altered stuffs myself and give out to friends but one thing i have noticed, those who appreciated my altered designs are usually my scrapbook friends. their reactions range from so much joy and appreciation and awe ( you know the feeling of being appreciated is tremendously like "HIGH" ) as compared to when i give them to my non-scrapbook friends. so everytime i make gifts, i choose what and whom to give nalang.

I agree cabbie, depende rin sa pagbibigyan, I gave out altered frames to non-scrapbooker colleagues at ayun dry na thank you lng ang nadinig ko na parang sa isip-isip ko sana isang chocolate bar na lng binigay ko d pa ko naghirap hahaha

I usually give out 6x6 pre-made mini albums for my friends where they can just put the 4r photos and do their journaling on their own, so far appreciated naman un efforts ko hehehe. For my brother and parents I made them 8x8 vacation albums with photos, na-appreciate namn nila at medyo nagselos pa nga mother ko kc mas maganda daw un gawa ko sa brother ko hahaha.

hi everyone!for my friend's despedida de soltera, i made her a mini-accordion book with our pictures in it (dapat ata picture nila ng asawa niya no?). and last christmas, i made mini-accordion calendars for my friends. they were touched and impressed (kahit bano ako gumawa) kasi it was one of a kind and alam nila na effort gawin. well, win-win situation, happy sila to get it )or so they say), happy rin ako habang ginagawa ko. :)

Me actually even before I joined the community I would always do something with personal touch. I was actually thinking of buying a gift for my mother-in-law and my husband with a personal touch-I chanced upon NBS corner for scrapbooking and budgeted P500/each to make a scrapbook for each of them. I ended up buying more and come up with a personalized album for both of them...kakatuwa kasi di ko pa alam ang gamit ng PPS hehehe so...puro white background lang sya at picture without a mat but lots of embelly yung nabibili sa NBS. But since I found it enjoyable ayun nag browse browse internet - na me and I realized there's more to it pala then I've learned Local store who sells imported stuff now I'm hooked and all of my gifts from albums to desktop calendars down too cards etc are personalized katuwa kasi enjoy na ko masaya naman pinagbigayan ko hahaha-wala na sila magagawa dun hehhee...

inasmuch as i want to give out handmade gifts, i just don't have the time to do so. i did give a friend a music video full of our pictures and her favorite songs as a going away present, tapos i made a cover na personalized, made of dry embossing pa nga ata yun... hehe... with sunflowers. those who saw it said that it was really creative daw (hehe).. it's been sort of a 'tradition' with me and my friends - a personalized cd cover na handmade from me pag merong may birthday sa kanila. none of my other friends scrapbook so when they say something like 'wow!' or 'ang tyaga!' tumataba ang puso ko...

yes, since I started scrapbooking, i have given a few already, first to my husband, a birthday mini album, a christmas card sent to my tito and auntie, a hanging photo frame given to my uncle who left to work abroad, a mini album given to my cousin for her baby's christening and another picture frame given to my kumare and until now, its still displayed in their living room. they would ask me if ako talaga gumawa nun, di sila makapaniwala na marunong ako, hahaha, pero syempre, sarap ng feeling kasi kahit simple lang, they appreciate my work/art/labor of love :)

yes i have :) i gave a few friends of mine ballet earrings which I made. it was my first attempt at jewelry making and they were so thrilled to receive it... syempre biased yung mga friends ko kasi mga ballet addicts sila kaya kahit anong ballet kahit sticker lang happy na sila. :)

yung mga gifts ko sa boss ko laging framed LO. she was always happy about it. akala nya nung una pinagawa ko kasi. Di pa nya alam I'm into scrapbooking then. tapos when she learned I made it, lalo daw naging special sa kanya. nakakaflatter kapag dinidisplay nila gawa ko.

I gave a friend a layout in a frame, she said it was so sweet of me. I gave my bf a mini-album, he said it was really pretty. I gave a friend a layout with photos of her and her husband as a wedding gift, and now she's a scrapbooker narin. I simply love it when the person I gave a handmade gift really appreciate what I did/gave. Nakaka-inspire. =)
